Aaron at Westport Cafe & Bar really knows how to throw a party. There were tons of cute girls in the cutest dresses. The guys weren't so bad either, all impeccably dressed. Loved all the red, white and blue, the fun stripes and berets. Cocktails were perfect, every table was full, and the crowd was lively. We had a seat at the bar and just watched and watched, and drank and drank. It was a super great party.

See what I mean about the cute girls?! Chelsea looking beautiful on the left and the girl on the right had a wonderful, exotic name I can't remember! I thought she looked like a gorgeous, young Brooke Shields.

Major Brands liquor rep Adrian with Westport Café owner Aaron. I met Adrian for the first time and he was hilarious. He was playfully flirting with one of the girls but I think he scared the daylights out of her.

crawfish boil - part 1

Starker's chef John McClure held his annual crawfish boil yesterday and it was co-hosted by Dan Doty of Westport Café and Bar. Roughly 300 guests attended this blowout party, most of whom are in the service industry. We started out with pulled pork sandwiches and seafood gumbo soup. An eight-foot table in the backyard was loaded down with crawfish while a table inside was filled with amazing salads, dessert and one very delicious gazpacho soup. Boulevard beer and rosés flowed non-stop during this 12-hour party that started at 3:30 in the afternoon and went well into the wee hours of the morning. Aaron Confessori of Westport Café & Bar lives on the same street, he hosted a "satellite party" in the driveway of his home to help with the overflow from John's place. The entire street was alive with music, people and great food and drink. Thank you John and Dan for a really great party! Bronson is a musician (keyboardist, piano player, singer) but he's also an excellent bartender who likes his job. "I wouldn't call this my career choice. It started as a way to make money but I really enjoy it. I don't really see it as work." Bronson is part of a surging cocktail culture in Kansas City, always learning, experimenting, and discussing the finer points of how to make the perfect drink. And he wants to share his appreciation of finely-crafted cocktails with his customers. "You don't have to get drunk on vodka and Red Bull. Anyway I can thrust the city in that direction, I will."

  Make KC Better » A good start would be getting bike lanes to make it easier for those of us who pedal ourselves everywhere in warmer months.
