It was a closer race this month. Lindsay always had the lead, but Emily was right behind her. Jess K. and her fans brought in a lot of votes towards the second half of the week. Unfortunately for Jess C., I think she was on vacation watching her beloved U2 during the contest. Congratulations Lindsay and good job on getting your peeps to vote! A big, big, big thank you to the restaurants providing gift certificates to our June Employee of the Month. When a customer came up to the window and asked which flavor was good, Lindsay said, "I make all of them so I have to like all of them." Having tried many of her snow cones before, there is no "have-to" about it for us. They really are so good....all of them. With whimsical illustrations created for every flavor, Lindsay brings personality and fun to each snow cone. She is currently working on creating Mango Ginger, knowing only that it's a "her" snow cone, the rest is still coming together. You can see her illustrated flavors here on flickr.

Last year, Fresher than Fresh was a successful Kickstarter project. The funds raised through this unique program made it possible to complete renovations on her 1957 Shasta trailer. Lindsay was definitely ahead of the curve in Kansas City's food truck games. However, she's happy to see the expansion, growth and popularity of the mobile food concept in KC. After visiting Austin and seeing all their food trucks, she said, "It's what I secretly wished would happen (in Kansas City)."

This summer, she has six part-time employees for the season and is expanding into popsicles! You can read more about Lindsay (she's gotten a ton of great press) and find her snow cone schedule & locations on her website.

Emily B. | Coffee Manager & Snow Cone Maker

Filling Station Coffee and Fresher than Fresh Snow Cones

Emily is a manager at Westport caffeine-stop Filling Station Coffee, but for two days every week, she moonlights on the other side of the temperature spectrum, making icy cold, all-natural snow cones. That means working doubles on those days, but Emily says "it's worth it because it's so much fun." Emily met  Fresher than Fresh owner, Lindsay Laricks, at her day job and basically begged for a job every chance she got. "Do you have a job for me? Do you have a job for me? My annoying persistence finally landed me the job," she said. In addition to her service industry career, Emily also sells on ebay and Craigslist. She recently added a King Charles Cavalier puppy to her family and in her free time she hits up as many happy hours as possible. Her favorite spots are La Bodega on the Boulevard, the Bulldog and El Patron. Coffee. Snow Cones. Beer. Puppy. That's her life. We like it.
