I really want to know why three of the bartenders in this competition aren't even from Kansas City, it is the Greater Kansas City Bartending Competition, St. Louis is not part of the greater Kansas City area. I'm not trying to be mean, I have nothing against St. Louis, I just don't think it is fair to our local bartenders.

I vote for Alberto santoro for best bartender!!

Berto!

Nashville is further than STL, last time I checked.

ALso, you can't blame a great competition for wanting to expand. It's not "unfair" to KC bartenders...it's about sharing our love for mixology with our across-state friends!

I agree Berto is the man!!

Competition is a good thing. I have faith that our local bartenders will triumph...and I predict this is the year a woman will win. Go, Jenn!

The Greater Kansas City Bartending Competition will change names next year. The new identity and logo will be revealed this Sunday. The event has really grown over the past couple of years, and it's begining to shed a tremendous amount of national light on our beverage scene here. That being said, it's important to welcome competitors from other markets, as they bring with them friends, supporters, media, etc...who all come to KC and experience our restaurants and bars. It's all about building the community, and less about truly determining who the "best" bartender is in KC.

Growth is good, the further and more ways we reach out to other cities, the better our own city becomes. KC is quickly becoming a bigger city, an awesome city, full of creative, passionate people who are changing it for the better. ThreeCardQueen brings up a valid point, but still, we look forward to the name change and the growth of this competition.

OR maybe some of the "out-of-towers" are actually FROM kc. Born and raised, not-that-it-matters-legit. I'm just saying...dig a little deeper. Maybe it's the place they call home. Who knows?

Ryan,
Thank you! I really appreciate your explanation, it makes sense when you put it like that.
